More rumors....There is a RUMOR going around that ENHS is closing due to COVID cases. This is a RUMOR and there is zero truth to this. ENSC schools stayed open during a difficult Dec. We will persevere and stay open until May 28!

Friday, December 18 is going to be PAJAMA DAY!!!! Please no robes, or slippers. If you have any questions please let Mrs. Erexson know ferexson@eastnoble.net

As we near the half way point of the school year, very few in the community thought we would still be holding face to face instruction in our buildings. Honestly, I had my own doubts. We are still in school and going strong. It is because of our outstanding staff and their dedication and unselfish actions that we are able to continue educating our students and providing valuable experiences that support their dreams! THANK YOU ENSC STAFF. You are appreciated, amazing, and rock stars! We can do this! Bring on 2021....please! -Ann Linson, Superintendent

We would love for you to meet another new face to our Trailblazer staff, Miss Haley Downer! Here are some things about Miss Downer, in her words! I love reading and spent ten years working in libraries so I try to visit them when I travel. This picture was taken at the New York Public Library in New York City. This lion is one of two Lego replicas of the larger marble statues outside the library. The lion which guards the south side of the building is named Patience. I have a cat named Ori and enjoy spending time with my family. I am constantly listening to audiobooks, podcasts or music while working on my hobbies like crochet, painting, and other crafts. I am so excited to be back at South Side this year as I was a student when the building first opened and also worked here as a preschool teacher's assistant during my senior year of high school. I look forward to helping our students learn and grow!

Meet Miss Strasser, another new Trailblazer face this year. Miss Strasser is teaching fourth grade at South Side. She loves all things Disney. (You will have to ask if she can come up with a favorite.) She loves sports! During recess you can find her joining in with her students at whatever game is being played. Another fun fact about Miss Strasser is that she loves anything that has to do with the lake! We are so lucky that Miss Strasser has joined our team!

Meet our school nurse, Mrs. Kavan Holcomb!! We share Nurse Holcomb with Rome City. I don’t know If you can tell by the picture but she enjoys traveling! Especially if she gets to visit the most magical place on earth!! Mrs. Holcomb is an East Noble alumni and we are so thankful she joined us at South Side!

Next, we would like to introduce Mrs. Ihrie! Also, new to our Trailblazer team but not new to East Noble. Mrs. Ihrie is joining us from Rome City Elementary. In her words, she has known the school for a number of years! Both of her kids attended South Side. Here is a little about her family that she wanted to share. My husband’s name is Chad. We have a daughter, Anna, who attends college in Indianapolis and a son, Carson, who is an 8th grader at East Noble Middle School. Some of my favorite things are photography and taking photos of our family and of nature. I also love spending time with my family and our yellow Labrador, Lambeau. Mrs. Ihrie is part of our third grade team and we are so thankful to call her a Trailblazer!

We would like to introduce you to Mrs. Hannah Crager. She is one of the new members of the Trailblazer team! Mrs. Crager joined our fifth grade team this year. She loves to do DIY projects, cook, and spend time with her family. Some of the things she loves are iced coffee, tea, succulents, cats, Mexican food, and teaching. She mentioned to us that this is her first year teaching and she is so excited to work along side the amazing teachers at South Side Elementary! Welcome to the team Mrs. Crager!!

We are super excited that the Care Mobile will be parked at South Side on Thursday, September 3rd. You will be able to make an appointment directly through the number on the flyer! They will be able to offer immunizations, hearing screening, vision screening, and the others listed for your child/children!

Some lunch changes:
Wednesday: Salisbury Steak or Muffin Lunch
Thursday: Walking Taco or Pulled Pork

ENSC closed Tuesday, August 11, 2020 due to power outages and storm damage. No eLearning.

Due to storm damage and limited electricity, ENSC will start Tuesday, August 11, 2020 with a two-hour delay.

Please make sure you are registered and ready for school! Next Thursday, August 6, is approaching quickly! If we can be of any help please give the office a call at 260-349-2200 or email ferexson@eastnoble.net

Follow up: The 6th grade Transition to a Knight is still be held, but for students only. The 9th grade orientation is still being held for students only.

We have some families asking about Back to School Night. Since Gov. Holcomb was not able to advance to Stage 5 reopening, ENSC cannot hold open house events. Watch for an introduction from your child's teachers before school begins.

ENSC is excited to begin school in less than two weeks! To ensure transportation arrangements, classrooms, and other aspects of school are ready, we need families to register their children before August 6! We are excited to begin!!!

Just a reminder that the kindergarten health fair is canceled this evening.

This school year the lunch room will only have two grades occupying it at a time. Example: One lunch over laps another grade by ten minutes. With only two grades in the cafeteria we were able to remove some tables and space them out for further distancing. Take a look at the pictures below. (We will try new arrangements until we find the one we like the most, this just shows we have room for spacing!)

Please make sure you register your student for the upcoming school year. If you have any questions please let me know at ferexson@eastnoble.net

Don’t forget....two random students will receive free book fees for the 2020-2021 school year. You must online register by midnight tonight to be considered.

Thank you all for our patience!!!
Ann Linson, Superintendent

Today, Dr. McCormick and Gov. Holcomb made a historic decision to close school facilities until the end of the school year. This means we will continue eLearning three days per week to fulfill the school day requirement. We realize this is challenging for everyone; however, the safety of our students and community must be a primary concern.
I realize you must have many questions and, unfortunately, I do not have answers yet. We will continue with the current plan of Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday eLearning days. Expect an update from me late Monday (April 6) that will provide you with additional details.
Thank you for your patience. We will get through this, one day at a time.
Ann Linson, Superintendent

Unfortunately our Family Game Night scheduled for next Thursday has been cancelled. Thank you to everyone that turned in an RSVP. We hope to hold this event before the end of the year and will communicate a new date if we are able to have one.

I’m sad to report that we are going to have to postpone Friday’s Brazilian Culture Day. FAME cancelled all of their school performances in the area along with the festival in Fort Wayne. We will do our best to hold this special day for students before the end of the year.

Due to recommendations from our county health department, we are postponing our Kindergarten and preschool round up scheduled for tomorrow night. A make up date will be determined and communicated as soon as possible.

Everyday is a great day to learn something new! I don’t know about you, but If I ask my kids, “What did you learn in school today.” They will tell me that they didn’t learn anything. However, if I phrase it like, “what kind of problems were you doing in Math today?” Then they will give me more information! What other ways have you found that work to get your children to talk about what they are learning?

Nov. 19 is Red for Ed day. We are fortunate to have teacher leaders heading to Indianapolis to represent all of our teachers. At the same time, we are also fortunate to have nearly all of our teachers planning to remain in their buildings tomorrow and teach one of our most precious assets, our students! Don’t be confused by the number who are staying here to teach our students. They, too, believe strongly that districts need to be funded so that we are able to provide the support our students need and the salary our teachers deserve. They believe their profession is extremely important and they create hope, dreams, and a future for our youth which in turn impacts our economy and future. Wear red Tuesday, Nov. 19 to support our teachers and all those who work with students daily. They make a difference in the lives of our 3,600 ENSC students!

Next up in our Did You Know about South Side staff: Mrs. Pepple. She revealed, "I love the water, especially snorkeling in The Bahamas. Mrs. Wassen, Mrs. Wilhelm, and Mrs. Boese make up our kindergarten team! Mrs Christian (featured in AM preschool) and Miss. Howard (PM preschool, not featured yet) also work with our kindergarten Trailblazers. This team is our “Meet the Staff” today. Kindergarten is always a happening place and this team makes it look easy!

Mr. Cary, Mrs. Hall, and Mrs. Valenti our the “Meet the Staff” today! All three of these talented special area teachers spend half of their day with our Trailblazers and half of the day with Wayne Center Tigers. In music Mr. Cary shares his love for the subject in every lesson he teaches! (You can also find Jim playing the trombone for the kids.) When you enter Mrs.Hall’s room she makes sure to let every child know they are an artist! Entering the gym, Mrs. Valenti shares her energy and upbeat personality to get our Trailblazers excited about being active!

“Meet the Staff” today is Mr. O’Neal and Mr. Holbrook! Mr. O’Neal is our second shift custodian! Many of our trailblazers interact with him at the end of the day and on the way to the bus or car rider line! Mr. Holbrook is our first shift custodian! They both will drop anything they are doing when something is needed for our students! We are so thankful for everything they do to keep our school looking AMAZING everyday!!

Our “Meet the Staff” picture for you today is Nurse Ashley Larson! We share Nurse Ashley with Rome City. Students ask every time they come into the office if the Nurse is in! We are so grateful for the medical expertise that Nurse Ashley brings to South Side! It is evident that she cares about each and every Trailblazer!!

Our first “Meet the Staff” picture is this lovely duo!! Mrs. Kemerly and Mrs. Cuellar are two of the first people you see when you come into South Side! Let me just tell you that they ROCK! The school could not run as smoothly as it does without them!! They do a bit of everything all day everyday and make it look easy!

During morning car drop off, please stay in your vehicle. If you need to come into the school, please park In the parking lot and walk in with your child. This will help the flow of traffic!

Happy first day of school #ssestrailblazers families!

This school year all morning car rider students will enter through Door 1. This includes those eating breakfast. We look forward to seeing everyone Wednesday!

South Side Parents, here are the dates that you can expect student iPads (K-4) and laptops (grade 5) to come home:
Kindergarten: Tuesday, September 3 (Immediately after Labor Day) This gives teachers, tech coaches and media people ample opportunity to teach iPad care and basic digital citizenship skills.
Grades 1-5: Wednesday, August 14 (This gives one week for the movement of devices to slow down and for teachers, tech coaches, and media people to have opportunities to talk about device care.)

Mark your calendars for Back to School Night on August 1, This is from 5:30-7

Congratulations to South Side Elementary art teacher Mrs. Dona Mossburg on her upcoming retirement. Dona has done some great things for ENSC in her 40 years of art education
